Not necessarily to keep an eye on the date, but more to keep an eye on a fresh Bowie every month. We think the first official calendar* was Edward Bell’s iconic 1980 artwork, David Bowie Glamour, issued as a poster and a calendar (not to scale) in 1981, and there have been official Bowie calendars almost every year since. That’s coming up to forty years’ worth. As you know, Edward Bell created original artworks for Scary Monsters and the associated singles from the album: Ashes To Ashes, Fashion, Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps) and Up The Hill Backwards. Not to mention Tin Machine II and various promotional adverts and posters for all the above. Bell created the David Bowie Glamour artwork from one of his own photographs (pictured), that he took alongside Brian Duffy at the same session. Both the Glamour poster and calendar do turn up, but as is always the way, expect to pay more for them in decent condition. Also, watch out for fakes and forgeries, there are plenty of them out there and there are unscrupulous sellers that specialise in this period creating items that never even existed in the first place. These days calendar collecting has become even trickier with the advent of two or three officially licensed calendars a year, so good luck should you choose to accept this challenge. Either way, it’s still a great way to amass a lot of large format Bowie pictures relatively cheaply. * Not currently having access to our calendar archive (yes, we do have one), we’re not 100% certain that the first official calendar was the 1982 David Bowie Glamour calendar. Proof to the contrary is welcome. #DailyBowieThing #BowieOfficialCalendar #BowiePoster #BowieEdwardBell」12月10日 4時19分 - davidbowie
