He produced these two rare beauties along with the story behind them… + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + In November 1971, Rolling Stone Brazil released their first ever issue. Brazil would become the second country outside of America (second only to Australia) to release an international edition of the magazine. The first issue, number ‘Zero’, was distributed free in Rio de Janeiro and featured Brazilian singer Gal Costa on the cover. Unfortunately, the magazine was short lived lasting only 14 months (36 issues). Unable to continue paying royalties to its American counterpart, Rolling Stone Brazil ceased publication and released their final issue in January 1973. In fact, the last three issues of the magazine were released without authorisation from Rolling Stone in America and appeared with the word “Pirata” (Pirate) written below the logo. Rolling Stone Brazil has the enviable claim to be the first ever Rolling Stone publication to feature Bowie on the cover. In fact, they would release two Bowie covers during their short history, the first of which was released on 22 August 1972. The accompanying article titled BOWIEMANIA offered a full-page report on the David Bowie of the day. The second Bowie cover released on 5 December 1972 features no Bowie content at all. Plonking David on the cover was a good attempt to boost magazine sales, but not enough to save the publication which ended one month later. On 9 November 1972 Rolling Stone America released their first Bowie cover giving David a total of three Rolling Stone covers for that year.
