In most cases the pieces of clothing would be donated and auctioned with the proceeds going to charity. Here’s another example of one such item, a beautiful silk shirt worn by Bowie for a Times Magazine cover shoot with Graham Wood in 1995. The pictures were taken to accompany an interview with Alan Franks. Most of the clothes Bowie let go were autographed, and this example is no exception.
