One bat species our Global Health Program is studying for zoonotic diseases is the bumble bee bat. It is the smallest mammal in the world!
It is listed as “vulnerable” to extinction by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and is the only species in the family Craseonycteridae. These tiny bats navigate the caves they live in and their nightly flights to find food using echolocation.
