We’re @スミソニアン国立動物園 and we’re taking over the Smithsonian’s account today in honor of #BatWeek! Bats are essential to the environment—they are important pollinators and they are the biggest consumers of mosquitoes of any animal.
Despite being incredibly important for the ecosystems they live in, their habitats are increasingly being disturbed by people. This poses risks to not only the bats, but to the humans that come into contact with them.
Our scientists with the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute’s Global Health Program are working with their partners around the world as part of the PREDICT project, funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development to protect the health of animals and humans.
