Time to paws and celebrate #NationalCatDay with this figurine from 1400-1500 A.D. in @smithsoniannmnh's collection. About 6 inches tall, it likely depicts a Florida panther shapeshifting into a human.
American anthropologist Frank Hamilton Cushing found it in 1896 during an expedition and archaeological excavations at Key Marco, Florida, where the Calusa lived on Florida's southwest coast.
