Although sunny days are rare in winter near Lake Towada, when conditions are just right the surface of the water shines like a brilliant mirror, calm and unbroken in the wind’s absence. Not only is it the perfect opportunity to snap some unbelievable photos—visitors can also enjoy a guided canoe tour around the lake. Sightseeing boats that normally cruise Lake Towada are suspended in winter, which means that canoers will have the entire area, approximately the same size as the isle of Manhattan, all to themselves! It doesn’t get any better than that.
