These Ezo Deer (Cervus nippon yesoensis, or 'Ezo shika') are walking along in front of the Sea of Okhotsk in Shiretoko National Park. There are large chunks of drift ice floating in the water behind them, which pass over from Russia via the Amur River. Typically these ice floes are only visible for about a month from the end of January to the end of February, and are a majestic feature of the cold Shiretoko winter.
