The Shiretoko mountain range derives its name from an Ainu phrase, ‘siretoko,’ which means ‘the end of the earth.’ Located in the northeastern most part of the island of Hokkaido in Shiretoko National Park, completely blanketed in snow, it’s easy to see why they chose such a name. The blue sky contrasted against the powdery, pure whiteness of the mountains is simply beautiful. What more can be said?
