These adorable Ezo deer (Cervus nippon yesoensis, or 'Ezo shika') congregate in groups along the cliffside trail of Frepe-no-Taki Falls in Shiretoko National Park. The strong coastal winds along the trail blow away much of the snow, and the deer dig through it in search of dry grass buried underneath to eat. Ezo deer are frequently spotted by hikers, who wear snowshoes to enjoy the exhilarating outdoors along the icy trail in winter.
