劇場の芸術監督という仕事は指揮をするだけではありません。
2002年に兵庫県立芸術文化センター文化センターの芸術監督に就任してから、いかにオーケストラを育て、地域のお客様に何を届けるのか、全てのスタッフが志を持って仕事をするために何が出来るのか、そう言ったことを21年間本気で考え続けてきました。
かなり楽天家の僕ではありますが、時として落ち込むこともありました。
今年は海外の時間が長く、新日フィルの仕事で東京滞在も多くなったので、久しぶりに芦屋の自宅に戻ると、昔からの友人達の顔が見たくなり、いろんな人に「ただいま」を言いたくなtわけです！
稽古の貴重な休みの1日、昔から通っている神戸の喫茶店「木馬」に寄りました。
すると思ってもみないプレゼントを渡されたんです。それは木馬繋がりの友人のお父様の遺品でした。
僕が芸術監督に就任する以前からのチラシやポスター、公演プログラムや新聞記事のスクラップだったのです❣️
他にもPACのファイル、芸文のファイルもあり、僕は嬉しくて涙が止まりませんでした。ページを1つ1つ繰りながら、芸文の芸術監督を続けてきて良かったと心から思えた時間でした。

A work of an artistic director of a theatre is more than just conducting.
Since I became the artistic director of the Hyogo Performing Arts Center in 2002, I have been thinking about how to develop @hpac_orchestra, what we should convey to the local audience, what all the staff can do to work with ambition, and so on. I have been thinking seriously about this for 21 years.
Although I am quite an optimist, I have been depressed at times.
I have spent a lot of time in abroad, and in Tokyo due to the work with @newjapanphil this year, then when I return to my home in Ashiya for the first time in a long time, I want to see my old friends and say 'I'm home' to my friends!
On one of my precious days off from the rehearsal of @hpac_opera, I went to a coffee shop I frequent go for a long time in Kobe called 'Mokuba'.
Then I received an unexpected gift. It was from the father of a friend of mine who was related to Mokuba.
It was a scrap of flyers, posters, programs and newspaper articles from before I became artistic director. ❣️
There were also some files of @hpac_orchestra and HPAC. I was so happy and I couldn't stop crying. As I went through the pages one by one, it was a time when I felt truly happy to have continued as artistic director of HPAC.
