ダラス編Part３

ダラス交響楽団とは初めての仕事です。この楽団の音楽監督はNHK交響楽団の常任指揮者でもあるファビオ・ルイージさん。
僕は海外に出て35年の月日が経ちましたが、基本的にヨーロッパが中心で、アメリカでの指揮は1987年のタングルウッド音楽祭、そして師であるバーンスタインの追悼演奏会をニューヨークで振らせてもらったのと、ワシントン・ナショナル交響楽団の定期演奏会と、まだまだアメリカではニューフェイスなのです😆
英語圏の本場で英語でリハーサルをするのは、イギリスのオーケストラで経験しているので、なんとかなるとは思ってましたが、初めてのオーケストラとはどうしても少しよそよそしくなるものです。そしてヨーロッパのオーケストラとの違いは、アメリカは練習時間が短いこと。例えばトーンキュンストラー管弦楽団や、他のドイツのオーケストラに比べて、トータル3時間は少ないんですね。リハーサルは時間ギリギリまで行いましたが、やはりペース配分が違うので、なかなか焦りました😭
ただアメリカのお客さんは、めちゃくちゃ盛り上がるので、本番ではやりがいあるなと感じました！本番の回を重ねるたびにオケとも一体感が増し、演奏が終わるとすぐに、ブラボー＆スタンディングオベーションです。これが 一番アメリカに来たなと感じた瞬間でした✊

It’s my first time working with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra @dallassymphony . The music director of this orchestra is Maestro Fabio Luisi, also the permanent conductor of the NHK Symphony Orchestra @nhk_symphony_orchestra_tokyo .
I have been abroad for 35 years, but my main focus was basically Europe. I conducted in the US only a few times, including the Tanglewood Music Festival in 1987, a memorial concert for my mentor Bernstein @leonardbernsteinofficial in New York, and a subscription concert of the National Symphony Orchestra @natsymphonydc. I am a new face in America 😆.
I could handle rehearsing in English in the home of the English-speaking world since I had done it before with some British orchestras. But I inevitably felt a little distance with an orchestra for the first time. And the difference with European orchestras is that the rehearsal time of US orchestras is shorter. Compared to the Tornkünstler Orchestra, for example, or other German orchestras, a total of three hours less. We rehearsed until the last minute, but the pacing was still different, so I was pretty rushed 😭.
However, American audiences are so excited about the live music, so I felt the performance in the US was fulfilling! The sense of unity with the orchestra grew with each concert, and we received “bravo” calls and standing ovations from the audience as soon as the performance was over,. It was an experience I felt I had come to America the most ✊.
