Is your happiness in climbing dependent on performance? I’ve been asking myself this question a lot this year. I guess the answer is ‘somewhat’. I’m almost always happy at the crag no matter how I climb but my general happiness suffers if I feel like my body isn’t managing climbing and training well. Since Magic Line my body has not responded well to training or climbing and now I’m climbing with a (hopefully) minor shoulder injury. I’ve still managed to climb a lot and have fun but in the background there has been a general worry that something isn’t quite right. I’m exploring options with diet etc. but alongside that I am always working on my head to be happy, independent of performance in climbing.
