Mossy leaf-tailed geckos like this one @theomahazoo are tree-dwellers, relying on their unique coloration and patterning to help them blend in and avoid predators. They’ll spend most of the day at rest hanging vertically on tree trunks, but once the sun goes down these guys will spring to life and go off in search of prey. Their stealthy habits and striking appearance are key to their survival in the wild, but they have also made this gecko a prime target for the international pet trade. While laws are in place to help prevent the export of this species out of Madagascar, it is up to us to eliminate the demand for these animals as pets.
