In addition to being one of the largest eagles in the world, the Philippine eagle is visually striking with its massive black bill, fringe-like leg feathers, and long brown head feathers. Found on just four islands in the Philippines, this remarkable and critically endangered bird is what researchers call an umbrella species - a species whose protection leads to the protection of many other species that share the same habitat.
