スミソニアン博物館のインスタグラム(smithsonian) - 10月3日 07時24分
This vejigante mask from the Vidal Collection was one of the first items I ever cataloged for the Smithsonian (it was my first job at the National Museum of American History, but I had previously worked on an archaeology project in Mexico with researchers from the @smithsoniannmnh). These masks are worn during Puerto Rico’s Carnaval, held annually in late February/early March. The wearer acts as a trickster, dancing and scaring others by hitting them with a vejiga or inflated cow bladder. — Steve Velasquez, curator at @国立アメリカ歴史博物館
