? for ??! Jim Nollman's “Playing Music with Animals” was one of the more eccentric albums that @smithsonianfolkways ever released. Convinced that human beings and animals could use harmony as a means of interspecies communication, Nollman enlisted 300 turkeys, 12 wolves, and a pod of orca whales to create the one of the first albums with nonhuman musicians.
Here's a clip of "Orca Reggae," which features a simple guitar pattern played to the orcas using an underwater speaker. Nollman was thrilled by their response, noting, "With more time, I have no doubt that the orcas could learn the rudiments of jazz improvisation!"
