I collected this “#1 Dad” frame, which was found abandoned in the Arizona desert, likely brought by someone crossing the border. When I look at it I wonder who brought this? Was it a son or a daughter? Or maybe a father who kept a photo of his children in it. Did they make it across? Migration is a part of U.S. history, as immigrants shape the country’s cultural, political, and economic landscape. My job is to tell stories of the Latino experience to our visitors, and collecting objects from the border helps shape how and why I tell these stories.
