Our @airandspacemuseum is known for its big objects—planes, rockets, a lunar module—but it recently added a few small creations to the collection.
Science writer Maia Weinstock designed this prototype for the popular "Women of NASA" LEGO® set. It features astronauts Sally Ride and Mae Jemison, computer scientist Margaret Hamilton, astronomy expert Nancy Grace Roman and mathematician Katherine Johnson.
Weinstock wanted to represent a range of experiences of women and people of color in STEM. The prototype shows the creative thought process and historical research that went into the concept.
These pieces help tell the story of some inspiring groundbreakers in aerospace and, like the museum. inspire the next generation of explorers.
