Even after the mindfulness trend people are still very confused about what meditation is. I’ve talked to people about meditation and I’ve encountered all manner of confused responses. I’ve had people tell me that their Mum is in to that stuff, that she is a healer and can renew the life of fruit ? I’ve had people tell me that they’ve tried it but they didn’t enjoy it. ?‍♀️ I’ve had people tell me that they’d love to do more of it but that they’re bad at it.?‍♀️ - Let’s get some things straight: 1) it’s not mystical or magical or antithetical to science 2) you may at points find meditation pleasurable but this is merely a bonus not the point 3) like all things everyone is bad at first but you get better with practice. - I recommend the @headspace app and @10percent book and app and the new @samharrisorg app. If you want zero fluff/ pure brain training I recommend the latter. I would also recommend doing a retreat such as the 10 day Vipassana course. In an age of enticing social media, technology overload and algorithms that know us better than we know ourselves there has never been a better time to train our only tool: our mind. - - Photo: Questing around on a motorbike in Ladakh after my first mediation retreat, definitely at least 10% happier.
