Here is the left section of Wenceslaus Hollar’s panoramic view of London from 1647. Hollar used an earlier panorama from 1616 by Dutch printmaker Claes Jansz Visscher to help label some of the buildings, but unknowingly he had copied a mistake from this older image. The circular building labelled ‘The Globe’ here is in fact Hope Theatre which was newly built when Visscher made his view. The building Hollar has labelled ‘Beere Bayting’ (bear baiting) is actually the Globe Theatre associated with Shakespeare.
