This extravagantly ornamented Jewish wedding ring has a hinged gable roof with a small compartment underneath. It’s decorated with enamel and a technique called filigree where tiny gold wires are formed into patterns, then soldered to a background. The beautiful enamel parts of the gable roof are formed to look like tiles and dormer windows. These architectural features may represent the marital home of the couple, or the Holy Temple. The origins of the ring are uncertain, but it was made somewhere in Europe sometime after the 16th century.
