This Mixtec ring is decorated with a cat’s head, flanked by two snakes. It’s finely crafted out of gold, using the lost-wax casting technique. The skilful application of this method has produced the spiralled design on the edges of the ring, imitating the technique of filigree. It’s thought this ring was made after 1200, but before 1521.
