One of the most important things to do postpartum is to learn how and when to engage your core and this is going to eventually carry over for when doing squats, lunges, even bicep curls and shoulder press for example! ✨ EVERY exercise is a core exercise when done properly! ✨ Some notes: 1️⃣ Diaphragm breathing and engaging your inner core (transverse abdominals) is something that takes practice in order to “feel it” so don’t worry if you’re not there yet. Keep practicing!! 2️⃣ Really slow this movement down so you can focus on moving each vertebrae at a time 3️⃣ Before going into this move, do a nice inhale and expand your belly, then exhale and engage your core, then extend each arm and leg and keep that core engaged. This will help you will balance. Then inhale again as you return to starting position and repeat (no need to do a crunch quite yet unless you feel ready. For post c-section this is more about stretching that scar around for now) 4️⃣ Spend some time in the 90/90 stretch on each side to get some internal and external rotation before adding in the “mermaid” element 😊 and exhale and engage your core as you reach up and back 5️⃣ As mentioned in this video this one doesn’t feel great 😫 but is so important for post c-section mamas to do. You can start with your chest on the ground instead of up on your elbows but I personally can’t because my chest is too big and it hurts 🫠 but either way, just focus on relaxing and breathing into your belly and then move around side to side when you’re ready.
