BOWIE GETS THE MARQUEE BUZZING 55 YEARS AGO

“Lonely nights, I dream you're there...”

Following their first ever show together at the Mecca Ballroom in Leicester, David Bowie & The Buzz made their Marquee debut the following day, on 11th February 1966, 55 years ago today.

While not quite as well-known for their recorded output or reputation as a band compared to The Spiders, David Bowie & The Buzz were clearly hard working having performed around a hundred shows during the rest of 1966. This was a much heavier workload than David had been used to with his previous bands up to that point.

The Buzz consisted of: David Bowie (vocals, guitar, saxophone), John 'Hutch' Hutchinson (guitar), Derek 'Dek' Fearnley (bass guitar), John 'Ego' Eager (drums) and Derrick 'Chow' Boyes (keyboards). Hutch first met David at The Marquee during a successful audition in the run up to the Leicester gig.
