It was also Top 10 in the US and a few other European countries. But this isn’t about that. Today we’re looking at an area of Bowie collecting which has existed since our man started to advertise whatever it was he had to offer, from gigs and tours, records, films and numerous other purchasable things. Press adverts are a wonderful diary of the ever-evolving look of David Bowie, dating all the way back to his very first physical appearance in two completely different adverts for the Can't Help thinking About Me 45 in January 1966. Today’s examples are both music trade magazine adverts which were often different to those that appeared in the regular monthly and weekly music magazines. There were also territorial variations, not to mention subtle differences between adverts for the same product in the various music weeklies. So, it’s yet another of those areas of Bowie collecting which is seemingly never-ending, as previously unknown adverts seem to surface regularly.
