As we pointed out yesterday, @therealmickrock was a man whose words and images were important in the early development of Bowie’s publicity machine, but even he may not have known about this one. The June 1974 issue of the most esteemed Model Maker magazine, published details of how one could go about making a David Bowie figurine, loosely based on a Mick Rock photograph of Bowie and The Spiders in full flight. The costume isn’t quite right and the hedgehog for hair may be a little clumsy, but you’d have to agree it was a brave attempt at capturing our man. But what we really want to know is, did anybody reading this actually attempt to make one of these or anything similar? This issue of Model Maker magazine isn’t too hard to find, but if you manage to track it down, you must promise to make your own version.
