Though the fireback crayfish is not currently listed as an endangered species, @americanfisheries considers it endangered due to its restricted range, which is limited to a small region in northwest Florida. In the wild, this crayfish is found in saturated soils along the banks of creeks where it can easily burrow and conceal itself amongst roots.
