Did you know that today’s fancy and colorful breeds of goldfish started out as a drab form of carp in China? More than 2,000 years of domestication and breeding had yielded the popular fish of today, ranging in colors from bright orange to this blue butterfly moor I photographed @hkoceanpark. Seen as a symbol of luck and fortune, they are wildly popular as pets, but they are also spotted in natural areas, often as a result of being released into the wild when they are no longer wanted. This action can harm native fish and amphibian populations. You can help to protect local wildlife by putting unwanted goldfish up for adoption, rather than releasing them into local waterways. #goldfish #butterflymoor #fish #PhotoArk #savetogether
