Today the Nelson-Atkins Museum is celebrating Juneteenth by commemorating generations of Black artists from the museum’s collection. Online access to Stanley Whitney’s dynamic and optimistic painting, “Upstate,” 2005, has been shared along with art by Radcliffe Bailey, James P. Ball, Anthony Barboza, Nick Cave, Aaron Douglas, Vanessa German, William H.
