Further, the series is inspired by the frequent theme of trains in the roots of American music. Weatherford once described her favorite sound as a “distant train whistle.” Her studio sits proximate to tracks that lead to Los Angeles’s famed Taylor Yard. The sound of trains passing by her home and studio is imbued in these paintings. A work from this series, “No. 4000," presented as part of Weatherford’s Artist Spotlight, has now sold.
