今日の和菓子：ひかり

私事ではありますが、この度、母になりました。 "ひさかたの 光のどけき 春の日に しづ心なく 花の散るらむ”
昨年末他界した祖母が十八番にしていた百人一首にちなんで、「ひかり」という名前をつけました。散りゆく命と新たに宿る光。どちらも尊く、美しい。うららかな春の日、暖かい光に包まれた桜の花を見るたびに、今日の日のことを思い出せたら良いな...
そんな桜の季節、このような時にあっても未来への希望を照らす光を表現した和菓子です。

Today’s Wagashi : Hikari (spring sun)

I am happy to announce that I became a mother.
It is said that your name is the first gift from your parents. When I decided her name, I picked the word “Hikari (spring sun)" from the traditional Japanese poem called Hyakunin-ishu, an anthology of 100 poems by 100 different poets, which my late grandmother loved. “In this calm and peaceful spring sun, the flowers(Sakura) are falling without calm mind”
Our life goes around and it is passing just like seasons. That made me realize that life is precious. I feel like my grandmother can warmly watch over the growth of my daughter in this spring sun. I’m hoping to remember this feeling every year during the cherry‐blossom season.
This confectionary dedicated to the new life represents the warm spring sunshine with falling petals of cherry blossoms.
