今日の和菓子：牡丹餅
季節はめぐり、今日から「春分（しゅんぶん）」。昼夜の長さがほぼ同じになり、本格的に春の訪れと生命の芽吹きを感じる季節です。
そしてこのお彼岸の時期といえば「おはぎ（ぼた餅）」。 その名前は季節を彩る花が由来とされ、春は「牡丹」→ぼた餅」、秋は「萩」→「おはぎ」だとか。
母お手製版はなんとも豪快でコロッケみたいな見た目だけど、それもご愛嬌ということで…

Today’s Wagashi：Botamochi
Today is “the spring equinox” — when day and night are roughly the same length.
During this season, a sweet confection called “Botamochi" is eaten in Japan. “Mochi" means sticky, pounded rice, and “Bota" comes from “Botan", or the tree peony. Botamochi is supposed to ressemble a tree peony flower. Although these Botamochi made by my mother look a bit rough and clumsy, the taste was pretty good. Hope things settle down soon and everyone will be able to enjoy this beautiful spring day.
