During this season, a sweet confection called “Botamochi" is eaten in Japan. “Mochi" means sticky, pounded rice, and “Bota" comes from “Botan", or the tree peony. Botamochi is supposed to ressemble a tree peony flower. Although these Botamochi made by my mother look a bit rough and clumsy, the taste was pretty good.
