今日の和菓子：玉の塵

様々な異名を持つ雪。
玉の塵もその一つで、「雪を玉のくだけた塵にたとえた語」とのこと。 「たま（玉・珠・球）」は、美しい宝石類、真珠のほか、美しいものや大切なもの、そして丸いもの球形のものという意味がある。

暖冬で雪不足が叫ばれる中、東京にも降った初雪。今年はあと何回この美しい姿を見ることができるかなぁ。

そんな塵を集めて作った雪玉に見立てた、白いきんとんの和菓子です。

Today's Wagashi : Snow Ball

Even though I don’t like cold weather, I've always been fascinated by snow and the way it changes a scenery.
In Japan, snow is also called “Tama-no-Chiri”. “Tama” refers to a beautiful, precious and round thing such as a gemstone or pearls in Japanese.
Maybe wagashi and snow are somehow similar. Both can change their forms freely and won’t last forever... That's why, I think they are beautiful.
This Japanese confectionery ”Kinton” is inspired by the first snow in Tokyo during this season.
