Are we the only ones who find this really calming?✨ For #AskACurator day we’re going behind the scenes with conservators, mount makers, and more. Check out our story for more.⬆️ Here, conservator Morgan Burgess uses a tested cleaning solution and a cotton swab to conserve a botanical model of a Hyoscyamus niger (aka: Henbane, Black Henbane, Stinking Nightshade). Botanical models like this one were popular teaching aids they helped students learn pharmacology. For instance, “Stinking Nightshade” has powerful powerful narcotic and antispasmodic properties and has been used for chronic coughs and asthma, pain relief, and more.🌼 Some of the models even have parts that move, to help the student learn more. Swipe ➡️ to see pictures of the Rhamnus Frangula (aka Black Alder) model which comes open. Some of these models are currently on display at @cooperhewitt .🌱 #BehindTheScenes #Conservation #ConservationLab #AskACurator #MuseumJobs #HistMed #HistSci #SciComm #MedSci #Flowers #Herbs #Nightshade #StinkingNightshade #Henbane #BlackAlder #GlowUp #TransformationTuesday #Transformation #AmericanHistory
