The Great Americans Medal, the museum’s signature honor, recognizes individuals who have not only made a lasting impact in their fields, but whose philanthropic and humanitarian endeavors set them apart. Paul Simon, a dedicated musician and philanthropist, embodies this. Yesterday, he became the sixth person and first musician to receive the medal. A celebrated singer and songwriter, Simon has produced timeless masterpieces, such as “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” “Sounds of Silence,” and “Graceland.” Co-founder of the Children’s Health Fund in 1987, Simon has continued to support youth and environmental organizations with his philanthropy.
