“We, the women of the United States, are fed up,” read a pamphlet from the Los Angeles Wages for Housework Committee.
In the 1970s, some women campaigned to make their housework visible and paid.
Women around the world called for valuing the “second shift,” or home and care work performed after leaving the shop floor or the office tower.
This tea towel bears the logo for the International Wages for Housework campaign.
The towel is currently on display in our All Work, No Pay display, which explores that despite making steps forward in the paid labor force, women often continue to be responsible for the almost-timeless and endless unpaid work at home.
