“Frank—Sweetie I am okay.” On September 11, 2001, after evacuating the Pentagon, Daria “Chip” Gaillard left this note on the car for her husband (and fellow Pentagon employee), Frank. A handwritten note might seem outdated to us in the digital era, but on that day a note provided peace of mind in the midst of chaos. The couple was able to find each other, and then turned their attention to others. The child daycare center of the Pentagon was evacuating near them, and the Gaillards helped move the children to safety.
