The accidental introduction of brown tree snakes on Guam upset a delicate balance in the island ecosystem. Many native lizard and bird species, including the Guam kingfisher, were extinguished from the island. In 1986, researchers brought the 29 known wild birds of this species under human care. Today there are fewer than 160 Guam kingfishers in the world, all living in captivity. Photo taken @houstonzoo.
