Our main artist had been contracted for a bigger label and quite literally overnight we were on airplanes to destinations and meetings larger than my scope of life had previously afforded me. Contract riders, private lounges, swanky venues and everyone popping out of the woodwork wanting a magic carpet ride too. Life became magnanimous and yet very small all at once, a world of possibility and a treasure chest of complexity. Dualities everywhere. Dining with notables one minute, working a second and third job another minute. It was glamorously unglamorous. I learned many things in that short spell of a season. One in particular that stuck was amidst the privy of associations allotted, I didn’t much care for notoriety and its mirage, and that industries, big or small, could be quite sharky and ravenous behind the scenes. Somewhere along the way, I noticed that I looked more shark and less myself too. So right there, in the height of bubbling possibility, I decided I’d had enough and quietly went on my way to follow the stream that led me back to the heartbeat of a path my own, instead of this middleman land of shark tank dreams. Things fell into place serendipitously almost immediately, but it was not without a hefty letting go. There were plenty of what ifs and unknowns but I was coming back the home within myself and that was the compass over all the rest. It’s funny how we venture out only to come back home again. I find myself on a similar trail now, a coming back from outward bounds, with unknowns on the terrain. A new year is nearing too and I’m looking forward to shedding the rucksacks of yesteryears as I follow my heartbeat homeward again. . . . .
