The Instagram world is a funny place nowadays, if you post a bikini photo where you’re posed you’re called inauthentic. If you post a less flattering bikini photo you’re praised. With the recent rise of body confidence content (which I wholeheartedly support 👏🏼) I went through a phase of not posting many/any photos of my body on Instagram. I felt like as a privileged slim, white and blonde woman my body wasn’t what needed to be shared. But I’ve since realised that all bodies can be shared and all confidence should be celebrated.
In the words of @lucymountain “its ok to just feel nice and post a damn pic without justifying yourself or your body to anyone”. So here I am and here’s my body. I’m happy in my skin and I’m feeling pretty great about it ❤️

annawill2 You are a beautiful person and so caring. And your body has done an amazing job for you this year and been through so much. But I think your gut instinct was correct around exactly what bodies need to be shown more. Our social feeds should be diverse, it’s so important as an influencer that your social feed feature all bodies OR that you raise the awareness of other profiles with diverse bodies. This is how we break the culture, this is how we disrupt diet mentality, we are all in this together and we all have our part to play but we must lift others around us who don’t have the same privileges and who live in different bodies, different sizes, different abilities, different backgrounds. And those people must share their stories and lived experiences and benefit from us supporting them and we must listen. If we don’t we are only perpetuating the stereotype that one type of body and person is worthy. I understand that a positive body image is independent of actual body size but we can not ignore the fact that some bodies are discriminated against every day. I say all this with love and the utmost respect for you as a person but I can not stay quiet🙏🏻❤️

iamemilyprice It is tricky - acknowledgment of thin white privilege, while still honouring and validating our own stories/lives/issues but they aren’t really comparable. I guess it comes down to awareness and purpose of the photos, and personally I just wish the emphasis was not on bodies at all - any size! Yes it’s important to feel at peace in our bodies but that doesn’t have to be the same as loving them or hating them. We are so much more than our bodies. But in order for us all to feel more at peace, there does need to be more exposure to all body types equally, and to not glorify the thin ideal. Surely, posting bikini photos purely for likes/engagement will not help squash this.

justfitjules Love this post!!! You’re darn right to post this photo!! Even if you don’t have the “usual” women’s issues like muffin top or wobbly arms, you inspire us to love our long, lanky and yet / therefore amazing body! Just because you look objectively great doesn’t mean you feel it. So just you being in happy in your skin is inspiration enough ❤️

h_morgan__ Ugh the politics! After spending 30 years without exercising and in pain after two pregnancies, I prioritised my fitness. As a result I’ve lost 30kg so far but have only posted one photo since I started losing significant wait because I have the fear that I’ll be chastised for promoting diet culture. It’s exhausting.

em_and_plants Looking stunning and yeah I mean why not? If it triggers someone it’s for them to censor themselves. If we as individuals find anything someone posts to have a negative effect we need to unfollow. But, that does not mean the person posting is wrong, no because we’re all aloud to be proud of who we are.

hayleyarizona Omg you are so right! Surely it’s in the name “body confident” to be proud and have confidence in your skin no matter what your size! We should all post bikini pics and expect nothing but love and kindness! ❤️💕🙌🏻
