Found within in the sub-alpine bogs of the Brindabella and Fiery Ranges lies Australia's very own Northern Corroboree Frog which is without a doubt one of Australia's most iconic and rarest species!

Unfortunately, this incredibly intriguing creature is a critically endangered species that has extremely low population numbers in the wild due to a number of different threats such as a deadly fungus known as chytrid and prolonged drought that has affected their habitat. Taronga alongside The NSW Office of Environment and Heritage has been working on a conservation program for this incredible species since 2010.

Taronga has released hundreds of frogs and thousands of eggs into the wild since 2010 to help boost numbers. In recent years, there have been positive updates and hopes of promise with a number of frogs which were released in 2014 returning to successfully nest.

Come 2019, eggs have been released into artificial pools that have been established in the wild with the assistance of the National Parks and Wildlife Service, in order to reduce the impact of drought on tadpoles.
