At first glance, the work depicts a roaring stream of water cascading down a serrated rock face. Upon closer inspection, the viewer sees: a couple strolling hand in hand, the head of a sphinx carved into the rock face, and more hidden symbols. Creating a compass-like diagram on the reverse of the canvas, the artist intended for the work to have no set orientation in order to be viewed from all angles.
