I remember hating when I would see Mother’s Day commercials with images of things I didn’t recognize. Moms hugging their children, people so happy. I held my mom responsible for so much. I was mad at her for dying, for making me feel unloved, I blamed her who she chose to be, I missed her, I loved her and hated her all at the same time. I turned Mother’s Day into a day I felt all these things. Never realizing I was stealing the day from my own children. Living in the past and teaching them to do the same. _ It took years for me to realize this and it’s so powerful as a mom we can only do as good as our mom did for us and she only did as good as her mom did for her. Being a mom is a constant personal growth. We do the best we can with what we’re taught. As I looked back at my grandmother I understood my mom a little better. I was able to forgive her and let go of the anger. I’m still working on my feelings about my parents so I’m not in a place to say I’m grateful for her but I do miss talking to her. _ Coming full circle I have a 25 year old son and we don’t have a great relationship. I most likely won’t hear from him today but I love him. I’ve tried explaining I was 15 when I had him and I did the best I could. I was the best mom I could be with what I was taught about motherhood in that moment. Everything that I did was with good intentions and love. Even the hard decisions, I’ve chosen to be the change and break the cycle. I’ve chosen to be better and grow day by day. I’ve let go of what I was taught and made the decision to become the mom my heart tells me 2 b. I hope he understands. I hope he can see me now and forgive the past. _ Motherhood is my blessing and I’m grateful to God for blessing me at such a young age with children.
