The United States needs to pay its debt when due — not doing so is “beyond even consideration,” Fed Chair Jerome Powell said.
Congress is debating whether to raise the level of debt the government can incur before the debt limit comes back into effect on March 2nd.
The deficit now stands at just over $22 trillion.
“I think it would be a very big deal not to pay all of our bills when and as due,” Powell said. “That’s something I think the U.S. government should always do.”
