U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer says that any trade deal with China must not be just about purchases, but include enforcement too. “It has to be specific, measurable; it has to be enforceable at all levels of government,” Lighthizer added.
Lighthizer’s testimony comes after President Trump pushed back a key early March deadline for the U.S. and China to strike a trade deal.
“Let me be clear,” Lighthizer testified. “Much still needs to be done both before an agreement is reached and, more importantly, after it is reached, if one is reached.”
