In the days since our interrupted phone interview with @taniabruguera in Cuba following her release from police custody, the artist has filed a defamation lawsuit against the Cuban government, demanding the retraction of defaming statements published in state media publications. Bruguera says this is a first-of-its-kind lawsuit meant to combat the intimidation tactics of an authoritarian regime and inspire other artists fearful of protesting the government's efforts to limit freedom of expression in the country with the new law, Decree 349.
