The artist Charles White was his friend, and a partner in that struggle for recognition. In 2018, Belafonte generously lent White’s drawings to his retrospective exhibition at MoMA, and discussed his friendship with White and their shared commitment to celebrating Black culture on #MoMAMagazine.
