I have just been blown away by Samin Nosrat @ciaosamin 's Salt Fat Acid Heat episode of Acid and the beauty of Mexican food. To my displeasure, I didn't enjoy the Italy/Fat episode as much as I thought I should. Probably because I already knew the topic so well (this made me quite sad, I don't want Italy to become something ordinary for me that I would not know how to cherish). The Japan/Salt episode was great, though Japan hasn't really got the power to MOVE me, although I find it amazing.
Mexico/Acid blew me away. The "naranja agra", our very own Iranian "narenj" as Samin rightly mentions, and our love for everything sour, and our uncontainable desire as Iranians to top every single dish with yoghurt, even pasta! She is amazing in so many ways, and she approaches cultures and their food with curiously, enthusiasm and humbleness, as contrary to the white male dominated food explorer tv shows.
I'm also happy I didn't binge watch the whole show, allowing myself to savor each episode on its own, letting it sink it, before moving to the next. Now I can't wait to watch the last episode: Heat.
