This lil’ leopard is eight days old in this image. Her name is Legadema. Conservationists Dereck and Beverly Joubert found her with her mother in a 2,000-year-old baobab tree in Africa, and they followed her growth for four-and-a-half years. Leopards are frequently legally shot by safari hunters, and they have unfortunately plummeted in numbers from 700,000 down to around 50,000. They deserve protection. “As we de-link ourselves from nature, as we de-link ourselves spiritually from these animals, we lose hope, we lose that spiritual connection, our dignity, that thing within us that keeps us connected to the planet,” says Dereck.
